What is counselling?

Angela counsellor Dunfermline

What is counselling and what type of counsellor are you?

Counselling is a form of talk therapy. It gives you the opportunity to be in a peaceful environment and speak about how you are really feeling, in confidence without judgement.

I am a Person Centred Counsellor. Person Centred therapy is sometimes called Humanistic Therapy. It has been found to be especially suited to you, if you are feeling lost, struggling with loss, low-self esteem or wanting to improve your well-being.

I specialise in working with people who are anxious or overwhelmed. I can work with you if you are living with specific challenges, such as anxiety, addiction, depression or relationship issues. It is common for me to work alongside other forms of help that you may have chosen, for example Alcoholics Anonymous, Alanon, or your GP.

I work with clients aged 18 and over.

I work with individuals. I cannot offer couple counselling or family therapy.

I work in two ways.

Firstly I offer counselling which means you have a private space to talk about how you are feeling.

Sometimes it can be a huge relief to be honest with me knowing that I am not a part of your everyday life.

Secondly I offer information which helps you discover useful things about mental health. This means that you can feel more empowered and understand the feelings you have been having are understandable in your time of difficulty.

Are you worried about past experiences or trauma?

I work in a trauma informed way, which means I note for signs and symptoms of trauma and I take care to work safely, respectfully and with care for you.

To increase your sense of comfort and safety I can use the practices of Capacitar, Emotional Freedom Tapping and other somatic techniques. If it is helpful we can build a toolkit of techniques that you enjoy, to support your sense of resilience and calm.

I offer short term work. There are those who feel more resilient in a short space of time once you understand what is happening and how to take action.

I am also available for longer term work if this is helpful for you.

Please feel free to contact me, you are welcome to have a single session and decide if I am a good fit for you.

“ Coming to see you has given me space to be me in my life”.

“Coming to see you has been like a weight lifting off my shoulders”.
